A whole lot. So why can&rsquo;t this relationship seem to get off the ground? As they try to shortcut their way to intimacy by baring their souls, they break each other&rsquo;s hearts repeatedly in tiny, devastating ways &ndash; and then come back together. He and his librettist Maxwell Anderson adapted Alan Paton&rsquo;s great novel&nbsp;<em>Cry, the Beloved Country</em>&nbsp;for the Broadway stage in 1949.&nbsp;The work, which was widely acknowledged as one of the most important works of that season and a landmark in the history of American musical theater, ran for more than 300 performances. However, when the producers learned that for the planned national tour the black cast members were denied the right to stay in the same hotels as the white cast members, the national tour was cancelled, and as a result only a few places in America have ever had the opportunity to see and hear a live performance of the work. This all-new production in the directorial hands of Anne Bogart and Jeffrey Kahane is a bold and rare chance to revisit Weill&rsquo;s final&nbsp;score.<font color="#2a2a2a"><br /><br /><strong><span>Kurt Weill&rsquo;s&nbsp;<em>Lost in the Stars</em></span><br /><span>featuring&nbsp;</span></strong><span><strong>SITI&nbsp;Company and Los Angeles Chamber&nbsp;Orchestra</strong></span><br /><br /><a href="http://www.laco.org/artists/jeffrey-kahane/"><span style="font-weight:700">Jeffrey Kahane</span></a><span style="color:rgb(99, 100, 100)">&nbsp;Conductor</span><br /><a href="http://www.laco.org/artists/anne-bogart/"><span style="font-weight:700">Anne Bogart</span></a><span style="color:rgb(99, 100, 100)">&nbsp;Director</span><br /><a href="http://www.laco.org/artists/jonathon-heyward/"><span style="font-weight:700">Jonathon Heyward</span></a><span style="color:rgb(99, 100, 100)">&nbsp;Assistant Conductor</span><br /><a href="http://www.laco.org/artists/issachah-savage/"><span style="font-weight:700">Issachah Savage</span></a><span style="color:rgb(99, 100, 100)">&nbsp;Leader</span><br /><a href="http://www.laco.org/artists/justin-hopkins/"><span style="font-weight:700">Justin Hopkins</span></a><span style="color:rgb(99, 100, 100)">&nbsp;Stephen Kumalo</span><br /><a href="http://www.laco.org/artists/lauren-michelle/"><span style="font-weight:700">Lauren Michelle</span></a><span style="color:rgb(99, 100, 100)">&nbsp;Irina</span><br /><a href="http://www.laco.org/artists/meloney-collins/"><strong>Meloney Collins</strong></a><span style="color:rgb(99, 100, 100)">&nbsp;Linda</span><br /><br />&nbsp;<strong>Center for Performing Arts at UCLA</strong></font><br /><strong><span>Royce&nbsp;Hall&nbsp;</span><br /><br />Sat, Jan 28, 2017 at&nbsp;<span>8PM</span><br />Sun, Jan 29, 2017 at&nbsp;<span>7PM</span>&nbsp;</strong><br /><br /><a href="http://www.ticketmaster.com/venueartist/90201/914980&amp;brand=capucla&amp;camefrom=cfc_ucla_KurtWeillsEDP" target="_blank">TICKETS</a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.ticketmaster.com/venueartist/90201/914980&amp;brand=capucla&amp;camefrom=cfc_ucla_KurtWeillsEDP" target="_blank">&#8203;</a><span style="color:rgb(42, 42, 42)">The Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation (SDCF)</span><span style="color:rgb(42, 42, 42)">&nbsp;Observership Program provides early to mid-career directors and choreographers paid opportunities to observe the work of master directors and choreographers as they create productions on Broadway, Off-Broadway and at leading regional theatres across the country.
