YOU LIKE IT - Bloodworks 2014

Picture
I have the distinct honor of directing a reading of Mariah MacCarthy's new play You Like It at Ensemble Studio Theatre's Youngblood Bloodworks 2014 series!

Ganymede is "new in town," and Orlando won't shut up about his ex-girl Rosalind. Secrets, gender, forbidden love: this bromance is about to get real. A queer riff on a classic.

Featuring the amazing
Jesse Geguzis, Adam La Faci, Turna Mete, and Sean Williams
with Elizabeth Seldin reading stage directions

Thursday, June 5 at 7pm
Ensemble Studio Theatre
549 W 52nd Street, 6th Floor
(between 10th & 11th Aves)

FREE!

MacCarthy says:
"You like hope? This is the most hopeful thing I've written in the past four years. You like love stories? I fucking love love stories. This is a love story. A genuine, go-get-'em-tiger love story, not a "why-is-everything-awful" love story like I usually write.... You like being charmed? Well that's good because I have literally the most charming cast in town, literally.... You like your theater topical? Cool, this shit is topical is fuck. You like men? This play is a sausagefest. You like women? This shit is written AND directed by women... Now come to my fucking reading."

The Belief Project 3.0

Picture
I am deeply entrenched in the devising and development of The Belief Project.

Since May 2013, I have led three retreats to The Dragon's Egg Studio in Ledyard, CT with FullStop affiliated artists to develop the textual, musical, and physical world of The Belief Project through ensemble devising techniques. We just returned from our March retreat during which we further addressed the question of "how belief translates into action." Contributing artists include: Kevin Bunge, Savvy Clement, Louiza Collins, Christopher Diercksen, Brian Dunlop, Jesse Geguzis, Mariah MacCarthy, Sean McIntyre, Diana Oh, Emily Rupp, Elizabeth Seldin, and Hannah Vaughn.

Originally inspired by the Peter Pan stories, The Belief Project is an exploration of the nature of belief in the current world climate. We are particularly interested in exploring how belief systems affect the actions of people with extremely differing viewpoints as it relates to political and social issues in a divided United States. Source material, collected through personal interviews and research, will be physicalized by employing music, dance, poetry, and prose into a theatrical collage for the stage.

New York workshop production projected Fall 2014.

This production is being developed as part of FullStop.LAB, the new devising arm of FullStop Collective. Below is an excerpt from a public showing at Triskelion Arts in September 2013.

I am leading the creation of a devised theater piece currently titled THE BELIEF PROJECT that is being developed over the course of the next year with a team of brilliantly talented collaborative artists!

Originally inspired by the Peter Pan stories, THE BELIEF PROJECT is an exploration of the nature of belief in the current world climate. I'm particularly interested in exploring how belief systems affect the actions of people with extremely differing viewpoints as it relates to political and social issues in a divided United States. Source material, collected through personal interviews and research, will be physicalized by employing music, dance, poetry, and prose into a theatrical collage for the stage.

The process began with a residency at The Dragon's Egg Studio in Ledyard, CT in May 2013 with the following collaborators:
Kevin Bunge
Louiza Collins
Diana Oh
Emily Rupp
Elizabeth Seldin

A first ever public showing of the work will be presented along side other Dragon's Egg artists on:
Sunday, September 29, 2013 at 4pm
at Triskelion Arts,
118 N. 11th St. 3rd Fl, Brooklyn.

Mrs. Mayfield… is part play, part party, in which a group of former classmates (now all pushing thirty) reunite for a night of drinks and nostalgia. Assistant Director: Trent Anderson

All Performances are at 8pm:
Friday May 31-Sunday June 2
Thursday June 6-Sunday June 9
Wednesday June 12-Sunday June 16

The project will play at an undisclosed location in Astoria, near the Ditmars Blvd. N/Q subway stop. Audience members will receive the location upon purchasing their ticket.
